Tama, his robotic A.I. companion that usually resides in his artificial left eye, is the sole individual who exceeds in helping him cope mentally... However, she has evidently lost power and only answers with a deafening silence. Maybe he will find a way to re-power her? 
Otherwise... how will her long-term absence effect Ryuki's ability to self-regulate?

 
  [001.]   PERSONALITY.  
"Intelligent", "kind", and "dedicated" — these are all words that would often be used by his peers to describe this young man. He would typically be considered to remain calm and collected in most instances, although he has also occasionally exhibited behavior that signals a certain level of dark complexity to his mind... of which he seems perfectly content to hide behind a politely sheepish smile and deep eye-bags. Whatever plagues his mind, he tends to keep locked away tightly, until it's chipped away — or until the pressure builds enough to break him. 
The way in which he carries himself somehow treads a careful line between all things clean, prepared, neat, and professional — and then a less-spoken tiredness that shows itself in the the way his attire and hair is usually disheveled. This perpetual exhaustion can frequently leave his speech nonsensical and disconnected. There is a level of aloofness to his every-day attitude, and more often than not he will respond to humor with a contrasting seriousness or feigned misunderstanding and obliviousness. 
He holds himself to very high expectations and is exceedingly hard on himself when he encounters failure. Finding it hard to accept encouraging or consoling words from others, he will often turn to vices (such as alcohol) to get over the seemingly inescapable feelings of self-hatred. Obviously, in the long run, this reliance on the prospect of temporary 'escape' may only do more harm than good. 
Ryuki is a prime example of a brilliant and well-educated man that has successfully pursued the career of being a detective, with the goal to help people and bring wrong-doers to justice. He tries his best, all while struggling internally with maintaining a clear and sane state of mind amidst the tumultuous events of his seemingly unlucky life. He greatly looks up to his superiors and those with more knowledge and experience than him, finding them an inspirational driving force in many ways.

X-RAY Vision : His prosthetic eye provides additional functions, including basic x-ray vision, given its battery-power is sufficient enough. 
Wink-psync : Another ability of the prosthetic eye, allowing Ryuki to momentarily glimpse into another individual's thoughts. [only executed with the explicit permission of the opposing writer]. Non-functional with current lack of power.

 
bullets for any occasion : The multi-function evolver gun is compatible with a variety bullets that may aid incapacitating an adversary or offering an advantage in many potentially inconvenient situations.these special bullets include:
    - Live: a normal bullet round.
    - explosive: goes boom!
    - stun: delivers an electric shock.
    - stun grenade: flashbang.
    - anesthetic: delivers via syringe.

  [005.]   BACKSTORY.  
Ryuki was born in Japan into what was a well-off childhood with rich parents, as the eldest of twin brothers. However, luck would not be on his side forever, as his parents' lives were taken in a plane crash.
 The twins tried their best to continue on their lives, entrusting to eachother their hope for a more promising future. They balanced eachother well, each seeming to have strengths where the other faultered. Then... as if the previous tragedy wasn't bad enough, Ryuki's last living direct family member would meet his own demise in the gruesome nature of vehicular manslaughter - being brutally struck by a large moving vehicle at high speeds. 
Pouring his attention into his career and success by means to cope, Ryuki becomes a private investigator at a secret government agency in Tokyo called ABIS [advanced brain investigation squad] that uses a futuristic technology to allow investigators to "psync" into another person's mind and reveal their true inner psychological workings. In order to be a psyncer, Ryuki had his left eye surgically removed so that the high-tech robotic replacement could reside there instead.

 
He has continued to work with law enforcement to help apprehend criminals in complex cases, such as taking on the role of lead investigator in "the half body serial killings". This was a difficult case that involved a mysterious killer who cut his victims in half... perfectly, at the subatomic level. After much struggle, the case is solved, with Ryuki playing a major role in ensuring that the culprit with an incomprehensible identity would torment people no more.Ryuki was trying his best to live rather peacefully - as peacefully as one could get in his line of work - until being swept away unexpectedly, one day, upon receiving a strange letter.
